Samathuva Pongal & AVC Fest Celebration

Thai Pongal is a traditional Indian Harvest festival that charms with its colorful intimations of an age gone by. It is the festival of freedom, peace, unity and compassion. Annai Veilankanni’s Group of Educational Institutions celebrated Pongal and AVC Fest with much pomp and enthusiasm on January 12, 2017.

Dr.S. Devaraj, the Chairman addressed the gathering and rendered his Pongal wishes. Dr. D. Dev Anand, the Secretary expressed his thoughts about the meaning and purpose of Pongal. Mrs. Delphin Devaraj, the Vice Chairman spread her words of wishes. Dr. D. Johny Christopher, the Director, enlightened the gathering with his joyful folk song. Dr. J. Nomila Merlin, the Principal i/c graced the occasion.

News Readers of renowned TV Media joined in this celebration for a noble cause. As we are aware that due to Varda cyclone many trees were uprooted hence, newsreaders around 100 in numbers received saplings from Dr.S. Devaraj , Chairman. They enthusiastically participated in the celebration of Pongal festival by performing various stage performance and delighted the eyes of the audience.

Thai Pongal generally includes customs and celebrations that are the expression of jubilation over life’s renewal. AVC Pongal celebration started with Kolam Competition and preparation of pongal. Students and Staff of All Departments together exhibited many stalls selling different products. This was a great opportunity for students to showcase their entrepreneurial skills. Following that students performed many different dance forms of Tamil Nadu such as karagattam, Kummiaatam, Kolattam, Mayil Attam, Oyilattam, Thappatam and Silambattam.

AVC Fest Followed after the Pongal Celebrations on the same day at 2.00 P.M. The Chief Guest Mr. Jeeva Ravi, Actor, shared his thoughts and gave his wishes to the gathering. There were many on stage and off stage events such as Variety Entertainment, Group Dance, Best Selfie, Floral Decorum, Rangoli, Short Film, English Debate, Tamil Oratorical, Spell Bee, Cooking without fire, Mehendi and Bridal Make – up, was conducted and many students participated with complete involvement. Prizes were distributed to the winners. The celebration came to an end with the proposal of vote of thanks by the Principal, Dr. J. Nomila Merlin. The day was concluded with heart filled memories and joy of sharing.
